KING CRAB
(Gossard, James) 2009 fall intro
(Heavenly Dragon Fire x (Orange Splash x Heavenly Jet fire)

TET 44" Midseason Dormant emo fr 9" 4-5 way branching  22-28 buds. Fertile both ways, but harder as pod parent.
King Crab is my best orange daylily introduced to date. Cross is from my 3 best orange introductions. My seedling number was BEST ORANGE. I guess that tells you how much I like it. The huge flowers are flaming orange with a darker orange red eyezone. Has super branching and bud count. Flowers can be seen from a great distance. Flowers are unusual formed cascade and crispate. It is a super garden flower and show flower. Because of the high bud count, flowers bloom over a very long period of time. And better yet, they can also rebloom. King Crab is a break through in dormant orange daylilies. Just check out the pedigree below, you will see how line breed for orange KING CRAB is. Also note that there is edged genes in it's back ground. It is slow to increase, about one fan a year, much like my WHERE EAGLES SOAR. I dislike this trait when it comes to making money, however as a gardener I love it, because the plant dose not require dividing. It puts all of it's energy into producing flowers.it looks fabulous for many years, thus the higher cost. Very limited, will be sold out and very difficult to obtain in the future. I believe it to be one of the top 10 daylilies I have introduced to date. ........$300 SOLD OUT A few plants still available in fall 2009 collection.

Pollen and pod parents pedigree, from AHS database.
